West Michigan Policy Forum joins growing bipartisan coalition opposing Constitutional Convention

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The West Michigan Policy Forum today announced it has joined Protect MI Constitution from Special Interests, a broad bipartisan coalition urging Michiganders to vote NO on Proposal 1 in November, which will ask voters whether to call a Constitutional Convention (Con-Con).

The forum, which represents interests of a variety of industries including manufacturing, healthcare, finance, education and others, is among a growing bipartisan coalition of organizations warning about the dangers of opening the Michigan Constitution to a complete rewrite. The Con-Con question appears on the ballot every 16 years.

“A Con-Con would mean years of uncertainty and confusion about Michigan’s future,” said Jase Bolger, president and CEO of the West Michigan Policy Forum. “While it may sound enticing to change some things in our constitution, allowing a total rewrite through a Constitutional Convention is just too risky.  Calling a Con-Con would hurt our state’s ability to attract investment and create jobs at a time when we need more jobs so that workers can advance in better careers.”
