Michigan Manufacturers Association highlights economic risks of Con-Con, urges NO vote on Proposal 1

The Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) today announced its opposition to Proposal 1 on the Nov. 3 ballot, raising concerns about the economic risks of a long, drawn-out Constitutional Convention (Con-Con).

Representing about 1,700 member companies across the state and working to strengthen the industry’s ability to compete, invest, and create jobs, MMA has joined a growing coalition working with Protect MI Constitution from Special Interests (PMCFSI) to encourage Michiganders to vote NO on Proposal 1. The group of 30 prominent policy and advocacy organizations representing a wide range of interests and priorities are working together to raise awareness about the dangers of opening the state constitution to a total rewrite that could hurt Michigan’s economy and discourage investment.

“Michigan manufacturers need certainty – not a wholesale rewrite of the rules that govern our state,” said John J. Walsh, president and CEO of the Michigan Manufacturers Association.

“A Constitutional Convention would open the door to special interests to reshape the Michigan Constitution for their own gains and create uncertainty for businesses and families. We should be focused on making Michigan a better place to invest and create jobs, not putting our constitution at risk.” 

The MMA, which has served as a unifying champion of Michigan’s manufacturing industry for 120 years, advocates for, supports, trains and grows the manufacturing industry in the state.
