Bipartisan team of powerhouse communications firms working together for NO on Con-Con coalition

LANSING, Mich. – Two of Michigan’s most effective communications strategists – with backgrounds on both sides of the aisle – are working together on the growing bipartisan effort to urge a NO vote on a Constitutional Convention, a ballot question Michiganders will see on the Nov. 3 ballot.

Mark Fisk and John Sellek, longtime communications pros who are well-known and well-respected among lawmakers, lobbyists and policymakers in Lansing, are working together with Protect MI Constitution from Special Interests (PMCFSI) to encourage a NO vote on Proposal 1 in November.

Prior to forming Byrum & Fisk Advocacy Communications in 2007, Mark Fisk was the political and communications director for the Michigan House Democratic Caucus. Fisk has worked for the Michigan Democratic Party and numerous prominent Democratic leaders, including U.S. Congressman David Bonior, U.S. Sen. Gary Peters and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

John Sellek started Harbor Strategies in 2019 following work advising prominent Republican leaders in Michigan, including Gov. John Engler, two speakers of the House and two state attorneys general.

Their work together with PMCFSI highlights concerns from those across the political spectrum about the dangers of a Constitutional Convention (Con-Con) in Michigan.

“A Con-Con will bring Michigan’s economy to a screeching halt for years, and that’s bad news for small businesses, job providers and families who are already feeling financially squeezed,” Sellek said. “It’s important to highlight the long, drawn-out process that comes with a Con-Con, which risks years of gridlock and confusion about Michigan’s future. Michigan simply can’t afford a Con-Con.”

Protect MI Constitution from Special Interests continues to grow its supporter network. Also this month, several of Michigan’s most prominent policy and advocacy organizations announced they are working with PMCFSI to encourage a NO vote on Proposal 1, including:

·         the Michigan Chamber of Commerce,

·         the Michigan Education Association,

·         the Business Leaders For Michigan,

·         the Michigan League of Women Voters,

·         the Michigan AFL-CIO and

·         the Michigan League of Conservation Voters

“The danger of calling a Con-Con is bringing together organizations that often disagree on many policy positions, and we are seeing growing agreement that a Con-Con is bad for Michigan’s future,” Fisk said. “In November, Michiganders have an opportunity to protect our freedoms and our rights, and say 'NO' to a Con-Con.”
