Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Regional Chamber joins statewide bipartisan coalition opposing Con-Con

The Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Regional Chamber is among a growing number of organizations and advocacy groups opposing Proposal 1, the Constitutional Convention (Con-Con) ballot measure on the Tuesday, Nov. 3 ballot, citing their concern that it will create years of economic uncertainty for Michigan businesses and communities.

Representing a cross-section of businesses in southeast Michigan, the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Regional Chamber is joining several chambers working with Protect MI Constitution from Special Interests (PMCFSI) to encourage a NO vote on Proposal 1, which will ask Michiganders whether to support calling a Con-Con. This growing coalition is highlighting the dangers of opening the state constitution to a rewrite that could prevent small business owners from growing or adding more jobs.

“Our state's constitution isn't static, it can and should be amended when Michigan voters believe changes are necessary,” said Diane Keller, president and CEO of the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Regional Chamber. “We already have a thoughtful amendment process for making those changes. A constitutional convention would create unnecessary chaos for businesses and communities by opening the entire document to revision, making it more difficult for employers to make long-term investments with confidence.”

The Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Regional Chamber represents approximately 1,300 businesses in the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti areas, serving as a network committed to fostering economic growth, supporting local businesses and strengthening the region's business climate.

PMCFSI is continuing to grow its supporter network. To join the list of supporters and find ways to help, visit protectmiconstitution.com.
